Things To Do This Weekend To help Your Job Search

It’s Friday afternoon; the end of the week is near, and you’re gearing up for the weekend. Will you be relaxing by the pool? Watching the game on TV at a friend’s house? While these all sound like great plans, have you ever thought about how you could use the weekend to get ahead of every other job seeker out there who is looking for a new job? Have you ever thought about things you could do this weekend that could help you with your job search?
Use It to Prepare
Yes, the number of job ads that go out over the weekend is few, but that does not mean you should also put a halt to your job search efforts over the weekend. Did you know that sites such as Indeed and CareerBuilder allow you to set up email alerts for specific positions you are looking for? During the week, sign up for job alerts from your favorite job search site. It only takes a few seconds to do so, and this way if any jobs get posted over the weekend that you’re interested in, you will get a personal inbox notification when they do. This is a great way to save yourself time and have the job search sites work for you.
Reflect On the Progress You Made During the Week
What actions did you take this week that produced results? If you don’t spend the weekend submitting applications, at least spend a few hours taking note of what has been working for you. Did you make changes to a resume? Did you try a different keyword while you were searching for a specific job title? Use these notes to fine tune anything that you may not be having success with. This will help you get Monday started off on the right foot.
Catch Up On Things
Since there are less job listings posted over the weekend, this is a great time to go back and double check your steps. Do a few more job searches using the same keywords and locations you did during the week. This will help make sure you did not miss any jobs and you have applied to all the ones you’re interested in. You could also use the weekend to prepare any follow up emails and thank you letters that you would like to send out this coming week. Doing this will help you focus your week on strictly submitting applications to jobs. It will also allow you to take advantage of any last-minute interview opportunities that you may be presented with.
Take Some Time to Recharge
Looking for a job can be a very time consuming and energy draining. While it is good to not completely abandon your search over the weekend, it is a good idea to take some time to recharge and get ready to hit the ground running when Monday comes.
